The Virgin with the rose designates a theme of Christian iconography. In these artistic representations, the Virgin Mary is accompanied by a symbolic object, a rose, present to invoke love and in particular the "universal love" that the Virgin holds, also called "the rose without thorns". Symbol of love in Greek mythology, the rose is the flower of Aphrodite who gave her beauty, Dionysus, gave her its heady perfume and the three Graces, charm, radiance and joy.
