Description

ANTIQUE PORTRAIT 19TH CENTURY PORTRAIT OF Beatrice Cenci OIL ON CANVAS Frame: 16 1/2" x 18 1/2" Portrait: 6 3/4" x 8 1/2" This beautifully sensitive 19th century Italian portrait of Beatrice Cenci is after the original by Guido Reni (1575-1642). These good quality 19th century versions were often produced for wealthy visitors on the ‘Grand Tour’. - The Portrait of Beatrice Cenci is a painting attributed to the Italian Baroque painter Guido Reni. It is housed in the Galleria Nazionale d Arte Antica of Palazzo Barberini, Rome. The painting dealt with a controversial topic of Beatrice Cenci--young Roman noblewoman who murdered her abusive father, Count Francesco Cenci. She was condemned and beheaded for the crime in 1599. The subsequent, lurid murder trial in Rome gave rise to an enduring legend about her.
