Auction description Italian Old Master Sketches: The Shepherdess Sketched on the reverse side of an 18th century French engraving, on old handmade chainlined paper with a watermark, here are two charming studies in pencil of a young shepherdess ("Brebessa"), accompanied, lower left, by a few lines of Italian poetry where the girl appears to be singing about herself. The figure study nicely captures the flow of her dress, and the drawing upper right delineates her features. Appealing work from a very good artist/poet, who seems to have been quite captivated by his suject. Dimensions of the paper sheet are about 12.25 inches by 9 inches. There is a little paper toning and edge wear. Condition is otherwise quite good. A lovely acquisition, probably about 250 years old, and I'm starting it off at such a modest price point. Shipping within the U.S. will be $7. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
