Description

Mass of St. Gregory. Pope Gregory I and the man of sorrows. Copy after original from Albrecht Durer. We found no reference at all to this item. Probably rare. Made by an anonymous engraver after Albrecht Durer. Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Sheet size: 23 x 34 cm (9.06 x 13.39 inch). Image size: 20.3 x 29.9 cm. (7.99 x 11.77 inch). Condition: good, given age. Trimmed inside plate mark; Old horizontal fold in middle with paper separation at right paper edge, backed; Damspstaining at top left, mosly visible on rear; A few small worm holes in bottom margin; Small hole in top margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. MASS OF ST. Biography artist: Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), sometimes spelled in English as Durer, was a German painter, printmaker, and theorist of the German Renaissance. Born in Nuremberg, Dürer established his reputation and influence across Europe in his twenties due to his high-quality woodcut prints. He was in contact with the major Italian artists of his time, including Raphael, Giovanni Bellini, and Leonardo da Vinci, and from 1512 was patronized by Emperor Maximilian I.
